2012-2014 - PILOT PROJECT

World Wide Hearing launched a two-year pilot project in Jordan in partnership with the Holy Land Institute for the Deaf. The initiative tested a new approach to making hearing care more accessible by combining affordable hearing aids with an entrepreneurial, community-based distribution model. The pilot demonstrated that hearing aid services could be delivered more quickly and at a lower cost than traditional models, with fittings completed in under an hour. It also showed the potential of task sharing: local women were trained as Community Hearing Aid Technicians (CHATs) to provide basic hearing-care services and support hearing aid users within their communities.

This early project provided an important proof of concept for WWH. It demonstrated that affordable technology, simplified service delivery, and local capacity building could be combined to expand access to hearing care in underserved settings, while reducing reliance on scarce specialist services.
