Dr Andrew Smith (Dr Ku's predecessor) left WHO on 31 January 2008, having reached the UN age of retirement. He has taken up a position in the U.K. as Honorary Professor at the International Centre for Eye Health in the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The Centre is broadening its mandate to cover other disabilities, including hearing loss, and he will continue to work on prevention of deafness and hearing impairment, and to support WHO and WWHearing activities in this field. He will also continue as a full member and secretary of the Executive Committee of WWHearing.
